Kilkenny County Council Libraries are gearing up for an exciting programme this April with Spring into Storytime! This annual library programme is designed to encourage young children to develop a love for reading and storytelling. According to Sophie Walsh Executive Librarian, at Kilkenny County Council Libraries, “Spring into Storytime is a wonderful opportunity for children to experience the joy of reading and storytelling. We hope that this programme will encourage children to become lifelong library users and avid readers.”
Reading with children and access to books has many important long-term benefits. Children who develop an interest in stories and reading have been found to have greater self-esteem and well-being, greater creativity and imagination, better social and health outcomes, and an overall better quality of life as they get older. The Spring into Storytime initiative is a creative way in which children’s literacy skills can be developed.
Spring into Storytime is an element of the Right to Read national library initiative.
