Mobile Library Service

The mobile library consists of a custom built vehicle. It travels all over the county and carries a stock of 3,700 items. The Kilkenny County Council Libraries Mobile Library Service is a vital outreach initiative that brings books and resources directly to communities across the county. Serving over 70 stops, including towns, villages, schools, crèches, early learning center's and nursing homes, the service ensures that rural and isolated areas have access to library facilities. It offers a wide selection of materials for all ages and even provides door-to-door deliveries for older residents who cannot visit a library in person. The mobile library promotes literacy, learning, and social inclusion, making it easier for people to engage with cultural and educational resources regardless of location. With plans for a modern, eco-friendly vehicle featuring digital access and sustainable features, Kilkenny County Council continues to invest in this essential service to meet the evolving needs of its communities.
