Mayfair Library

The Mayfair Library was officially opened to the public on the 24th of April 2024. This new purpose-built library transformed the site of the former Mayfair Ballroom, and it is now a key feature of the Abbey Quarter development in the heart of Kilkenny City. 
This new library is a vibrant, welcoming and inclusive space for the community of Kilkenny City and County, and has already established itself as a significant community hub.

This 1,800 m2 facility spreads across two floors and includes our Maker Space which is designed to inspire creativity and lifelong learning, offering access to innovative tools and technologies such as 3D printers, sewing machines, laptops, and even a flower press. In addition to hosting a variety of workshops and community events, the library features dedicated areas for adult fiction and non-fiction, a large bright children’s section, and a space tailored for teenagers. Visitors can enjoy a community room with exhibition space, a meeting room, study areas, and public PCs, as well as a laptop borrowing facility and an interactive Magic Table. The library is proud to hold LEED Gold certification and provides resources like ESKER Environmental Science Kits and Home Energy testing kits. Mayfair Library operates as a My Open Library, offering extended access during unstaffed hours—please speak to staff for details. Adding to its unique character, the library also showcases the Palimpsest art installation, creating a vibrant and engaging environment for all.
