Closure of Thomastown Library

Thomastown Library Closure:
Thomastown Library will close from 5pm on Tuesday March 10th to facilitate the move to our new Thomastown Library building. There is a large body of work required to prepare the new library for public opening including fitout, ICT installation, stocking shelves and implementation of Health and Safety systems. It is hoped that the new library will open in April 2026.
Thomastown Library has served the people of Thomastown well since its foundation in the 1970s, but we look forward to welcoming you to our new spacious modern library soon.
Please note some changes in the interim:
  • While we’re closed, regular services will continue at all other Kilkenny Library branches, and our online services remain available 24/7 as always - including eBooks, audiobooks, newspapers, magazines, and online learning resources (see www.kilkennylibrary.ie for more information).
  • There will be a ‘Returns Box’ available outside of the old library Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm to return your items.
  • Our mobile library will also be present at Thomastown Area Office (Eircode R95 TX68) on Mondays from 10am-4pm, starting on March 16th.
  • Any queries can be made by calling (056) 7794160 or emailing info@kilkennylibrary.ie.
  • Requests and reservations will be held until the new library opens. Alternatively, you can contact us and arrange to collect them at another library branch or at our mobile library.
  • All loans will be extended until the new library opens.
Thank you for your patience while we prepare for this exciting move and we look forward to welcoming you to the new library soon!
