Kilkenny Library Celebrates 30 Years of Science Week with Hands-On Discovery and Family Fun

Kilkenny Library is proud to announce an exciting programme of events for Science Week 2025, taking place from 9–16 November, celebrating the national theme: “Then. Today. Tomorrow.” This year marks the 30th anniversary of Science Week in Ireland, a milestone that reflects on the evolution of science and its impact on our lives—past, present, and future.

Thanks to the generous support of CALMAST, the South East Technological University’s STEM Engagement Centre, Kilkenny Library will host a vibrant mix of workshops, talks, and family-friendly activities designed to spark curiosity and creativity in all ages.

Highlights include:

• 3D Printing Workshops at the Mayfair Makerspace, with open sessions and guided workshops for beginners and advanced makers alike.
• A special talk by Anne-Karoline Distel, exploring how 3D printing is revolutionising access to cultural heritage.
• Luke’s Deadly Dinosaurs, featuring real fossils and a baby T-Rex.
• The Nutty Scientist’s Time Machine, packed with erupting volcanoes and bubbling cauldrons.
• The return of Junior Einsteins, with nature-inspired experiments and the ever-popular slime-making session.
• A science-themed craft sessions

Speaking about the importance of Science Week, Executive Librarian Aideen McDonald said:

“Science Week is a celebration of curiosity, creativity, and community. This year’s theme—Then. Today. Tomorrow.—invites us to reflect on how far we’ve come and to imagine the possibilities ahead. We’re thrilled to offer a programme that brings science to life for families, schools, and lifelong learners across Kilkenny.”
