Press Release - Ireland Reads Day February 28th

Kilkenny County Council Library Service invites you to Get Lost in a Good Book for Ireland Reads Day Celebrate reading locally on Saturday, February 28
Kilkenny County Council Library Service is delighted to join libraries nationwide in celebrating Ireland Reads, the annual campaign encouraging everyone to take time out to read throughout February, culminating in Ireland Reads Day on Saturday, February 28.
Ireland Reads part of the government’s Healthy Ireland initiative champions the power of reading to support wellbeing, reduce stress, spark imagination, and bring joy. This year’s theme, “Get Lost in a Good Book,” invites people of all ages across Kilkenny city and county to rediscover the pleasure of reading, whether for a few minutes or a full afternoon.
Throughout February, our branches will offer a programme of free events celebrating books, stories, and creativity. Activities include an Illustration Workshop at Mayfair Library on Ireland Reads Day, Family Storytime Sessions and Craft Workshops for children in many branches in the week leading up to the 28th. Whether you’re a lifelong reader or someone hoping to reconnect with books, there is something for everyone in Kilkenny’s libraries this February. Full event details are available at www.kilkennylibrary.ie.
Encouraging everyone in Kilkenny to take part, Sophie Walsh, Executive Librarian, said:
“Ireland Reads is a wonderful reminder that even a few minutes with a good book can brighten your day. Stories can lift your spirits, calm your mind, and offer a break from the everyday rush. This February, for Ireland Reads Day, we’re inviting everyone in Kilkenny, regular readers and newcomers alike, to get involved. Your next great read is waiting in your local library, and with so many fun, creative events happening for Ireland Reads, there’s no better time to dive back in Library membership is free, and we’re always happy to help you find books that match your interests. Make 2026 the year you truly get lost in a good book.”
